Welcome to the section where we try our very best to answer the questions we get asked the most:

What is the point of all this?

Probably the best question of them all. A basic answer is that we think that business market and promote themselves so much through the media, marketing bumpf and social networks that knowing what to believe is tricky to say the least. So we thought we’d start something where people could recommend businesses (in this case small businesses) that they really believe in. An altruistic gesture not only in promoting the business itself but in recommending it to someone else. It’s also a place to support Britain’s small businesses and works upon the premise that you’d rather give your hard-earned dollar to a small business that you feel a connection with than a giant multi-national.

Can I submit my own business?

Unfortunately this isn’t an option. You need to have at least one friend or someone who has used our business to recommend you. This allows us to ensure, above anything, at least one person values your business and the work that you do.

Can I register on NoMB and submit a business directly?

Yes. There’s a login/register link on the home page which allows you to register as a contributor and submit whichever business/businesses you like.

How long after I’ve submitted a business will it appear on the site?

This is heavily dependent on our efficiency and the number of submissions we have to check through. We check each business submitted for a number of criteria before we can allow them on our site. Our usual turn around time is well under 48 hours but if we’re taking a lot longer that could be because we have a queue of businesses going through but it could also be because the business you have submitted isn’t to our liking or that we’ve had to heavily edit/format your entry.

Why won’t the images show up properly on the page I have submitted?

Posting images for the business you are submitting is still slightly tricky as you have to follow quite a specific set of rules to ensure they look good. The video below should help you do this. If you are still struggling please feel free to email us the images and we’ll put them in to your submission.

Can you talk me through exactly how to submit a business?

There are two different ways – one is a simple form the other, slightly trickier, way involves another form but it isn’t as simple. Just watch the video below for an explanation of the trickier way or click here to fill in the simple form.

Are all businesses accepted?

Unfortunately the answer to this is no. Not all businesses are accepted. If we think the reason for you submitting the business may not be entirely selfless or if we do not believe that the business you have submitted is genuine or of benefit to our visitors we will not include your submission.

What classifies as a small business on this site?

This is a fairly loose term but we want to help promote Britain’s small businesses. If you submit a hugely successful business that everyone has heard of there’s a good chance it won’t be accepted. A rough guide would be that we’re looking for companies with under 30 employees (but we’ll look at any reasonably small businesses that are submitted).

The business I want to submit is not in the UK, can I still submit it?

You can still submit the business but when you do be sure to put it in the ‘International’ category.

I posted a comment on about a business and it was deleted. Why was this?

If your comment was aggressive towards any of our members or irrelevant to the business/topic there is a good chance it will be deleted. If you feel strongly that we were wrong to remove your comment let us know by e-mailing constructivecriticism@noneofmybusiness.co.uk and we’ll try to come back to you with our logic/reasoning.

How can I get my picture to appear with my post and/or on my profile?

Every business you submit will include a brief profile of you and an image. If the image appears blank you can use your login to our site to go on gravatar.com (these are globally recognised avatars – not the big blue ones the ones that you use as a picture of yourself). Or alternatively you can click on the ‘Your Profile‘ link here, on your dashboard and at the bottom of the page.

Does NoMB make any money from all this?

Nope. Currently NoMB doesn’t make a penny and is hosted, managed and run at the cost of its founder. If you feel like showing us your appreciation for what we’re doing you can donate funds here to help us buy a smoothie (in reality the money will be put towards hosting, the development of the site and online promotions for the business and businesses on the site as well as the day-to-day running of the site – and perhaps the odd smoothie – if you want to make a larger donation just drop us an e-mail).

Can I buy advertising space on this site?

We currently have no advertising on this site but we are willing to consider the possibility of including appropriate, meaningful , targeted and unobtrusive banner ads on this site (these will be clearly marked as adverts and will in no way compromise the integrity of the site). We are also willing to look at big business sponsors (were the right types of business to approach us)
